Survey (Bitra Edition)

Didn’t put Bitra in here last time, due to many spoilery things. Doing it for her because I had the time.

Part 1: The Basics

  1. What is your full name?
    • Cassaundra Eleanor Irving, now known only as Bitra
  2. Where and when were you born?
    • Her family farmhouse, located in the northern Bree-land fields on July 13 [18 years old as of 2018].
  3. Who are/were your parents? (Their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
    • Her father was Clifford “Cliff” Irving, a chicken and hog farmer. Known to be a sympathetic figure among the other small local farmers because he pushed the narrative that his wife was always sick and his one child was a “constant troublemaker.” He died in a jail riot at the age of 48 [in 2018].
    • Moira Irving (née Finley) was her mother, a housewife. She was always of slower-moving, delicate disposition; more likely to acquiesce without a fight than stand up for herself. She died of a lung infection shortly after her daughter ran away [in 2018].
  4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
    • She does not have any siblings.
  5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
    • She lives in Ravenhold with the Wayfarers. It’s been described in great detail elsewhere, but the short version is: it’s the guild grounds/hall for The Wayfarers in Durrow, Bree-land. She’s part of the newer generation of Wayfarers that signed up approximately a year ago, and has been training.
  6. What is your occupation?
    • Training to be an adventurer and also a healer. While she originally came to the Wayfarers as a way to learn how to fight and protect people, she quickly became enamored with the idea of helping heal and treat everyone. Plus, she seems to have a knack for it.
  7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
    • She is a willowy young woman who manages to have a young face yet aged air about her, with a sleek, athletic figure. Very tall for a native Bree-land woman, she stands at about 5’10”. Her hair is a thick medium-brown color and it gets wavier the longer it grows. Her wide, piercing eyes are an ambiguous hazel that’s hard to pin down. She typically dresses demurely with the specific intention of not drawing attention to herself, and keeping any wandering eyes far away. There is a litany of old scars along her arms, upper back, and her inner thighs; the scars along her arms look less severe, thanks to some topical treatments to soften the damaged skin. In terms of her face, Bitra’s lookalike is Anne Hathaway.
  8. To which social class do you belong?
    • She grew up as a lower-class farm girl, but since joining up with the Wayfarers, has managed to settle into more of a lower-middle class spot. While she actually has a lot of saved up money due to her frugal practices (and after selling her family farm upon inheriting it), she doesn’t spend or count on any of it.
  9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
    • She has a fairly serious alcohol allergy. The few times she’s drank any or had some in food, she broke out into hives and had some difficulty breathing. She’s also one of those people who has a great immune system and doesn’t get sick much at all, but when she does, she is out for the count.
  10. Are you right- or left-handed?
    • Left-handed, but she didn’t want to make waves when joining the Wayfarers, so she sucked it up and just learned to wield weapons as if she’s right-handed.
  11. What does your voice sound like?
    • Her voice is naturally soft, with a bright, musical quality. But she usually adds a vocal fry to it, lowering the tone and making herself sound brusquer. When she forgets or is surprised/distracted, she’ll drop it (particularly when truly laughing).
  12. Do you have any distinct accent or dialect, or pronunciation quirks?
    1. She has a fairly standard Bree-ish farming accent, but despite growing up isolated on a small farm, her grammar is actually pretty decent (she does tend to shorten some words, like ‘gonna’ or ‘wanna’). Those from the North Downs would recognize that she says certain words with a faint familiar accent, and if she ever sings a song in the ancient dialect still used in that area (Erse), her pronunciations are fairly nuanced/accurate.
  13. What do you have in your pockets?
    • String to pull her hair back, some cloths that could be used as makeshift bandages, likely a pebble or two that she uses to rub her thumbs on as a soothing habit, and a tiny silver wedding band.
  14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
    • She tends to leave out extraneous words, not using qualifiers or assigning ownership in a sentence (“Dunno about that” instead of “I dunno about that,” or “so annoying” instead of “you’re so annoying”), and tends to be very concise when speaking. Almost as if she’s always expecting to get cut off or interrupted. When she does talk for more than a few sentences, it’s usually an outpouring of her thoughts with little regard for blunting her words.

Part 2: Growing Up

  1. How would you describe your childhood in general?
    • Terrible. Abusive.
  2. What is your earliest memory?
    • Her mother singing to her when she had a bad fever at maybe four years old.
  3. How much schooling have you had?
    • No formal schooling at all. She didn’t even know how to read when joining the Wayfarers. She learned how to read/write over this past year, and while she’s still slow at it, she’s determined to get better.
  4. Did you enjoy school?
    • N/A
  5. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
    • Most of her combat skills were learned during her time in the Wayfarers this past year. Her other skills, such as her animal handling, basic first aid, and outdoorsmanship, were gathered over years spending occasional time hiding in the woods. Varidia has taught her on formal medical knowledge.
  6. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
    • Not really. Her mother is the closest she had, but even then, she never wanted to be her mother. More wanted to help her.
  7. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
    • Loved and helped take care of her mother, and did not get along with her father at all. We’ll leave it at that.
  8. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
    • Free.
  9. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
    • Playing in the woods and singing alone.
  10. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
    • Stubborn to the bone, but in a broken way. She would willingly take any danger or hurt onto herself in order to protect something or someone she held dear.
  11. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
    • Not even a little. No friends.
  12. When and with whom was your first kiss?
    • Her first voluntary kiss, the one she counts, was with a guy nicknamed “Kit” shortly after she ran away. They were friends and he was definitely interested in more, but Bitra was absolutely not in the mental place to handle a relationship. She agreed they could fool around but no more.
  13. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
    • See above: Kit, shortly after she ran away. It was just physical with no strings attached. She wasn’t emotionally ready to handle more but teenagers are naturally horny creatures, so they came up with an arrangement.

Part 3: Past Influences

  1. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
    • Deciding to join up with the Wayfarers.
  2. Who has had the most influence on you?
    • Her mother. Bitra’s mannerisms and gentle nature are directly influenced by spending time helping her mother as she grew up.
  3. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
    • Getting away. Truly getting away. Being free again.
  4. What is your greatest regret?
    • Not being able to save her mother.
  5. What is something you don’t want anyone else to find out about you?
    • Won’t detail it here. Suffice to say that she did something desperate when she had no way out or other choice. Despite it truly not being her fault, she will always consider it a burden of guilt that she needs to carry.
  6. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
    • No.
  7. When was the time you were the most frightened?
    • When she was captured for the last time. Despite the deep-seated paranoia, she had really started to believe she might be safe, and then boom: immediately back in hell, stolen away from those she cared about most.
  8. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
    • Not killing her father when she left. If she had done that, she could’ve taken her mother with her.
  9. What is your best memory?
    • A romantic kiss and heartfelt conversation beneath the stars on a hill outside of Archet.
  10. What is your worst memory?
    •  The memory of the aftermath to the answer of question #5, “something you don’t want anyone else to find out.”

Part 4: Beliefs and Opinions

  1. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
    • Pessimistic. Life has given her very little indication she should believe otherwise.
  2. What is your greatest fear?
    • Losing her freedom, and having it be her own fault.
  3. What are your religious views?
    • She doesn’t have any. At all.
  4. What are your political views?
    • The only one she has is that there needs to be better laws in place to protect children.
  5. What are your views on sex?
    • Complicated. As an act, in and of itself, it’s a good way to get some relief, provided it’s consensual. Once you start adding feelings and emotion into it, though, it can be scary.
  6. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
    • Yes. For protection and survival.
  7. In your opinion, what is the evilest thing any human being could do?
    • What had happened to her.
  8. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
    • She thought it was a load of bull for a long time. Until recently.
  9. What do you believe makes a successful life?
    • Being in control of your own destiny and choices.
  10. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
    • Bitra wears a constant mask, and tries to hide her thoughts/feelings away at every opportunity. She lets it drop around select people (numbered in the single digits).
  11. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
    • Any older man her height with brown hair will immediately set her on edge. Period.
  12. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
    • To be trapped once more.
  13. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
    • Those she cares about.

Part 5: Relationships with Others

  1. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
    • She treats most people indifferently at first, not rudely nor nicely. If she grows to know someone well (especially if she begins to trust them), she’ll open up and be friendlier/kinder, in her own way. She holds hardcore grudges, though.
  2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
    • At this point, it’s definitely Siri. The two have had a bizarrely intense connection from the beginning, but considering just how far they’ve fallen for one another over the past several months, he is clearly the most important person to her.
  3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
    • Probably Varidia. She’s a strong woman who knows how to be vulnerable at the same time, doesn’t let people push her around, and is protective of those around her.
  4. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
    • She has several people she considers a friend: Garrett, Tauni, Gilderoy, CeeCee. Garrett is probably the closest she has to a best friend (he’s like a brother she doesn’t get along with half the time).
  5. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
    • Sirifast is her significant other. He’s hard to describe, haha. A really tall Gondorian minor noble hailing from Dol Amroth. Former Swan Knight with a checkered past and severe PTSD, who is trying with all his might to be a “better man.” Some look at their relationship with disapproval due to their age/class differences (he’s a decade her senior).
  6. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
    • She is right now! It’s an odd tale of becoming good friends, incognizance of deeper feelings growing, time apart, and eventual realizations after a traumatizing event.
  7. What do you look for in a potential lover?
    • She didn’t consciously look for anything. It just sort of happened. The most important thing for her was that whomever she fell for had a genuinely good heart. A gentle touch, protective nature.
  8. How close are you to your family?
    • Never close to her father, very close to her mother; but both are dead.
  9. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
    • She doesn’t have any kids.
  10. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
    • In order: Siri. Varidia. Eruviel. Garrett. Any of the Wayfarers, really. Her old friend, CeeCee.
  11. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
    • Same as above, same order.
  12. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
    • Siri, Varidia, Wayfarers, CeeCee. Probably Jaemy.
  13. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
    • Her father. All the abuse.
  14. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
    • Totally depends on the topic. If it’s a point of pride or protecting someone, she’ll never back down from conflict. Otherwise, she prefers to avoid any and all danger.
  15. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
    • Nope. Never.
  16. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
    • She much prefers blending in with large groups of people as opposed to actually interacting with them. She hates being the center of attention.
  17. Do you care what others think of you?
    • She only cares what people think of her when they are people that she cares about.

Part 6: Likes and Dislikes

  1. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
    • Walking through the woods, singing alone, and playing with animals.
  2. What is your most treasured possession?
    • It’s a tie between her mother’s wedding band and the feather charm necklace Siri gave her so long ago.
  3. What is your favorite color?
    • Forest green.
  4. What is your favorite food?
    • Mince pie!
  5. What, if anything, do you like to read?
    • Anything that makes her feel like she’s learning something. Time is precious, no point in wasting it on frivolous reading.
  6. What is your idea of good entertainment?
    • Good music and quiet company.
  7. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
    • She does not smoke, cannot drink, and refuses to even look at drugs.
  8. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
    • Probably reading quietly, playing with her pet hedgehog Iris, talking with Siri a bit, and practicing some of her studies (bandages, stitching, etc.).
  9. What makes you laugh?
    • Unexpected potty/dirty jokes usually throw her off guard enough and they get a good chuckle out of her.
  10. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
    • People actually making light of abuse (not just joking), particularly if they minimize her own experiences.
  11. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
    • Go take a long, quiet walk in the woods.
  12. How do you deal with stress?
    • Turtle, bottle it up, run away to process it alone.
  13. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
    • If it’s a serious topic, she much prefers to have a full plan in place. For leisurely activities, she’s more fluid and spontaneous.
  14. What are your pet peeves?
    • People chewing with their mouths open. Having her feet uncovered while sleeping.

Part 7: Self Images and Etc.

  1. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
    • Wake up, go for a jog, eat breakfast, combat training, clean up, eat lunch, study or practice, eat dinner, leisure time, bed. If it’s disrupted for a good reason, she has no problem adjusting; if it’s for a bad or dangerous reason, she starts to get somber and sour.
  2. What is your greatest strength as a person?
    • Her strength of will. The beautiful thing about Bitra is that she refused to entirely give up being gentle or kind, despite everything that’s happened to her. She just…doesn’t know how to show it very well. It’s partially why she wants to be a healer so badly. And saved a stupid hedgehog.
  3. What is your greatest weakness?
    • I’d say it’s a tie between her PTSD (because it can practically incapacitate her if triggered the right way) and her deep-rooted assumption that she’ll eventually be betrayed.
  4. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
    • She’d change her brain. Remove the PTSD reactions (uncontrollable panic attacks, etc.).
  5. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
    • Introverted.
  6. Are you generally organized or messy?
    • Organized.
  7. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
    • Good: Outdoorsmanship, getting the last word, learning new things.
    • Bad: Expressing herself, acting like a dainty woman, and making friends.
  8. Do you like yourself?
    • Not usually.
  9. What are your reasons for being an adventurer?
    • Where else can one hone the skills that keep themselves safe from harm and help innocent people, all while getting paid?
  10. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
    • Settle into something that actually feels normal.
  11. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
    • Absolutely no idea. She knows what she’d like to see in five years, but that doesn’t mean it’s even remotely plausible.
  12. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
    • When much older, defending someone important to her.
  13. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
    • Probably spend the first six trying to figure out if there’s a way to stop it. Then divvy up her stuff amongst those important to her, and spend the rest of it with Siri, trying to convince him not to give up after she’s gone.
  14. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
    • Being strong.
  15. What three words best describe your personality?
    • Private, simple, clever.
  16. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
    • Cagey, serious, hard to read (complicated).
  17. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character?
    • Stop being so afraid of sharing your feelings. People actually like being around you. You do not live with a “betray me” sign taped to your back.
